Question :12

A boy multiplied a certain number x by 13. He found that the resulting product consisted of all nines entirely. Find the smallest value of x.

Answer: (b)

Question :13

A person has only Rs. 1 and Rs. 2 coins with her. If the total number of coins that she has is 50 and the amount of money with her is Rs. 75, then the number of Rs. 1 and Rs. 2 coins are, respectively

Answer: (d)

Let the no. of Rs. 1 coins = x

and the no. of Rs. 2 coins = y

According to the question:

x + y = 50 ... (i)

x.1 + 2. y = 75 ... (ii)

on solving (i) and (ii), we get

2y – y = 75 – 50 ⇒ y = 25

put value of y in equation (i), we get

x = 50 – y

= 50 – 25 = 25

Hence, number of Rs. 1 and Rs. 2 coins are 25 and 25 respectively

Question :14

Consider the following statements for the sequence of numbers given below :
11, 111, 1111, 11111, ...

  2. Some numbers are squares.
Which of the above statements is/are correct?

Answer: (c)

11, 111, 1111, 11111, ...

1 Each number is divided by 4 then their remainder are always 3.

So, it can be written as = 4 m + 3

So statement is true.

2 No, this type of numbers are not squares.

So it is not true. Only 1 is true.

Question :15

At a college football game, 4/5 of the seats in the lower deck of the stadium were sold. If 1/4 of all the seating in the stadium is located in the lower deck, and if 2/3 of all the seats in the stadium were sold, then what fraction of the unsold seats in the stadium was in the lower deck ?

Answer: (c)

Let total number of seats in the stadium be p; number of seats in the lower deck be x and number of seats in upper deck be y.

∴ p = x + y, x = p/4, y = 3p/4

Now in the lower deck, 4x/5 seats were sold and x/5 seats were unsold.

No. of total seats sold in the stadium = 2p/3.

No. of unsold seats in the lower deck = x/5 = p/20

No. of unsold seats in the stadium = p/3

∴ Required fraction = ${p/20}/{p/3} = 3/20$
